Minding the Moving Self

A theoretical review connects bodily movement, self-modeling, and psychotherapy.

Sharon Vaisvaser’s December 18, 2025 review discusses how bodily movement, sensory integration, autobiographical memory, and interpersonal coordination contribute to models of the self.[1]

Contribution and relevance

The article synthesizes neuroscientific and clinical perspectives, including predictive processing and dance movement therapy. It provides biological context for Embodied Cognition, complementing computational accounts of Machine Introspection.

Limits

This is a conceptual review rather than an AI experiment or a new controlled clinical trial. Its synthesis and therapeutic proposals require checking the particular underlying studies before asserting treatment effects. Human bodily self-modeling does not establish subjective experience in a language model. The review can support attributed explanations of human embodiment; extending them to AI systems is a separate hypothesis.
