Centre Judgements: Teaching Staff Interviews, Summer 2020
Qualitative interviews explain how teaching staff combined evidence before results day and the grading reversal.
Steve Holmes, Darren Churchward, Emma Howard, Ellie Keys, Fiona Leahy, Diana Tonin and Beth Black report 54 teaching-staff interviews conducted July 28–August 12, 2020. These preceded the reversal. Recruitment followed volunteer survey responses; the authors could not fully control the final sample (§2.2).[1]
Why timing matters
A recollection gathered before a decision answers different questions from one gathered afterward. Here, read the accounts as evidence of participants’ judgment processes. Compare the later discrepancy study for a different kind of evidence.
Historical context
Published May 17, 2021. Selected methods and judgment examples reviewed; original PDF p.40 visually checked. Complete transcripts, recordings and the companion survey were not audited. The qualitative sample is not a population prevalence estimate.[1]
